In 1862, Georg Michael Pfaff, an instrument maker by trade, made his first sewing machine and founded the G.M. Pfaff sewing machine factory in Kaiserslautern, Germany. In 1885, Georg Michael Pfaff expanded the PFAFF factory and modernized it. Georg Pfaff took over the management of G.M Pfaff Sewing Machines after his father death in 1893, and further expanded the factory. In 1898 the company began the production of household and industrial machines with electric motors. In 1910, Pfaff manufactured its one millionth sewing machine. In 1935 the three millionth PFAFF sewing machine was made. In 1951 Pfaff introduce into the sewing market, the VERY first home sewing machine with a free-arm. In 1979 PFAFF developed the first freely programmable automatic sewing machine with x/y control.
The PFAFF brand’s technical refinements and precision associated with high quality features including creating the original built-in IDT system (walking foot) and a home machine capability of stitching a 9mm wide stitch.
